Professional Boundaries in Early Childhood Education – Virtual Event

April 2, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

This presentation was developed for Registered Early Childhood Educators working in various practice environments and will highlight what professional boundaries are and the important role they play in ensuring the safety, care and well-being of everyone in the learning environment. Participants will learn about the difference between appropriate professional boundaries, blurred professional boundaries and boundary violations; areas where boundaries may be challenged and the influence of contextual factors and power dynamics on professional boundaries. There will be opportunity for discussion and collaborative reflection.

About the Facilitators:

Deborah Gores RECE is a Professional Practice Analyst at the College of Early Childhood Educators. She holds a Master of Science in Family Relations and Human Development from the University of Guelph, where her research focused on supporting RECEs in addressing the development of sexuality in early childhood. Her current research interests are early childhood education policy and sexuality education in early childhood. Prior to joining the College, Deborah worked in the research and evaluation department at the Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre.

Safra Najeemudeen RECE is a Professional Practice Analyst at the College of Early Childhood Educators. She has an MA in Early Childhood Studies and a BA in Early Childhood Leadership. She is a doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Education at York University. Her research focuses on teaching and learning in contexts of cultural diversity. Prior to joining the College, Safra worked as the professional learning coordinator at the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario, and as a professor in early childhood diploma and degree programs.
